As a designer, the key is to infuse some “Life” into a home, understand the Needs & Wants of the Client and the family and transform them into aesthetically functional designs.
“Work From Home” is a Need now.
Converting a Spare room into your Home office is Ideal thing to do, but how many actually have that luxury ?
In cities, when every inch of space is already utilized, its time to carve out some more.
Hence a new word emerges – Home office-Desk Space. How do we go about?
Desk Placement
- Having a free standing Desk is Great option if space permits. A minimum of 30” space for the chair is required between the desk and Wall.
- If your desk is facing the wall, select such a corner where there is no human traffic. Well you don’t want your family members walking past your back whilst you are on a Video Call. Its embarrassing.
- Window right behind your back while working, a complete no-no. Light from the windows causes reflection on the screen while working, during video call if curtains are not drawn your face appears dark
Desk Placement – Vastu Considerations
- As per Vastu while working you should sit facing the North , East or North East,
- Avoid facing South.
Desk Size
- It is extremely important to have an ideal length of the Table, as it can directly affect your productivity.
- To determine the length of your desk , Lay down your Laptop / Books/ Files / Papers etc on a surface, as you would keep them during normal working, check the length with a measuring tape.
- Ready made Desk sizes available are 2′-6”, 3′-0”, 4′-0”, 5′-0”. Customized sizes can be made as per the requirement.
Desk Material
- Plywood with Laminate finish is an ideal surface, to work and maintain. Other surfaces an be Glass, Marble etc.
Desk Lighting
- It’s dark & you want to work! You switch on the room light and hear someone shout !! It’s important that other members of family are not disturbed while you are working.
- A variety of Table/ Study lamps are available online. These are ideal, as they focus the light on the desk only.
The Perfect Chair
- Things get a little tricky here. Every Individual is different, so are the needs & body type.You will be spending approximately 8 hours a day in that chair.
- How do we practically check the chair??? Online is like a Genie (Your wish is my command). Surely Buying online is a the trend today but Check it out First it will great, u will be spending a lot of time in it. If & when possible, try to get it from a reputed showroom after checking all comfort and functionality.
Peripherals Positioning
- Depending upon the nature of your job you might require a Printer, now days I guess its a necessity. Plan a space for it on or below the table, but do not forget the bundle of paper and cartridges they also need to be handy.
- A small drawer housing Pen / Writing pad and misc stuff.
- Ready-made Soft-board/ Writing board.
Might look like so many things ponder upon, but they are very important in making work from a pleasurable experience.
